Crowdfunding TAWAKI.CAM

The Tawaki Project/Tawaki Trust has just launched a cord funding campaign that aims at establishing a live video feed from one of the Milford Sound/Piopiotahi tawaki colonies. We have teamed up with the Urban Wildlife Trust who have established several iconic live video streams such as the Royal Albatross cam and more recently the Kākāpō cam.

The system will broadcast a live feed from two cameras – one trained at a tawaki nest, the other observing the penguin path through the forest – from Milford Sound to YouTube. The data will be transmitted from the penguin colony via a series of wireless bridges to the Milford settlement and from there, initially, broadcast to the internet via StarLink. Eventually, we hope to utilise the fibre optics connection that is currently being established in Milford.
