Finn is passionate about the ocean – a next-level surf enthusiast with the scars from several surfboard incidents to prove it. So it’s understandable that he has a natural curiosity for penguin foraging behaviour, probably with a hidden desire to figure out how they manage it without injuring themselves. He joined the Tawaki Project in 2023 for his Master’s thesis at the University of Otago’s Department of Marine Science. By the time he’d wrapped up his work on the foraging behaviour and diet composition of tawaki from Tamatea/Dusky Sound, it was obvious he too had been bitten by the tawaki bug. And he’s been coming back for more ever since.
